PADAWAN: A total of 48 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), and public/private university graduates, received incentives totalling RM16,860 at the Academic Excellence Incentive Award Ceremony 2024.
The programme, organised by the Biya Kuching Association, was officiated by Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, here on Saturday.
According to Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, the incentives align with the Sarawak government’s initiatives that emphasise the importance of education.
He also highlighted the significance of education in the Mambong area through various initiatives, including this excellence incentive programme, as part of efforts to enhance human capital development.
“Congratulations to all recipients. I hope this programme continues to inspire the younger generation to seize the opportunities available for their personal and community advancement,” he said.
Meanwhile, the association’s chairman, councillor Joseph Tau, said the programme has spent a total of RM46,280 since its inception to recognise the achievements of Biya students.
“This initiative is to appreciate the efforts of Biya students excelling academically and to encourage the younger generation to achieve excellence and contribute to community development.
“This is also to ensure that the Biya community continues to progress, in line with the association’s motto, ‘So Biya Yun Biya, Samah Maju’,” he said.
At the ceremony, Dr Jerip also announced the approval of an allocation amounting to RM50,000 for this academic excellence incentive programme in 2025.
Also present were Dr Jerip’s wife, Datin Lee Chai Foong; adviser to the Biya Kuching Association, Datin Jennifer; and Administrative Officer in Charge of the Padawan Sub-District Office, Julius Scott Sapong.
