481 druggies nabbed in integrated operations in September

KUCHING: A total of 481 druggies were arrested in integrated operations conducted by the One Stop Committee (OSC) to address drug and substance issues in the state in September.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Sri Fatimah Abdullah who is OSC chairman, said the figure showed an increase of 3.9 percent compared to the previous month’s arrest of 463 persons.

“During the month of September, a total of 380 enforcement operations were carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN), the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) and the National Anti -Drug Agency (AADK).

“As a result, a total of 481 arrests were recorded involving 37 persons for drug distributions, 119 for possession and 325 others who tested positive for drugs,” he told a press conference on Friday (Oct 15).

During the operations, she said, an estimated RM4.3 million worth of drugs were seized, including 66.25kg of drugs and substances in compressed form.

Fatimah revealed that the impact of the seizures was able to curb 662,597 times the use of drugs and illicit substances as well as save 165,643 individuals for a month in Sarawak.

During the same period (September), she said, a total of 1,895 people were ordered to undergo treatment and rehabilitation.

She revealed that 71 prisoners were caught involving in drugs and substances abuse in prisons statewide.
