KAMPUNG SALAK: The residents of this village, located off Santubong and accessible only by boats, will enjoy 4G Internet connection with the completion of a 30-metre high SACOFA telecommunication tower by the end of this year.
Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi revealed that work on the RM700,000 tower project began last month.
When completed, the tower, he added, would close the digital gap between the residents of Kampung Salak and other residents of Kuching City.
Besides helping youths and schoolchildren in their learning activities, the 4G Internet connection would benefit the business owners of “madu kelulut” (stingless bees) to expand their business internationally.
Rahman was speaking at a “Qurban Perdana” (slaughtering of animals in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri) and earthbreaking ceremony of the tower here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of SACOFA Sdn Bhd, Sudarnoto Osman said the company planned to implement internet literacy programmes in the near future for Kampung Salak residents.
“SACOFA has always taken proactive measures for the residents as smart apps can enhance the competitiveness of the locals.
“Soon, the remote area of Kampung Salak will be equipped with telecommunication facilities and this will change the way people live,” he added.
