MIRI: Five persons were arrested by the police for possessing stolen water meters yesterday.
According to Miri OCPD ACP Lim Meng Seah, the suspects aged between 28 and 50 were detained to assist in investigation.
Four of them were arrested around 9.45am in Pujut and Permyjaya, while the fifth suspect, who is a scrap metal dealer, surrendered himself an hour after the first four were arrested.
Two of the suspects are believed to be involved in a series of water meter theft within Pujut since November last year.
The other two are believed to be involved in a series of house break-ins within Permyjaya since October last year.
The police believed that they had solved three stolen water meter cases in Pujut and three house break-in cases.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 457 for house break-in.
