KUCHING: The Lions Clubs International of District 308-A2 Region 4 in Zone 9, comprising Lions Club of Miri Mandarin, Lions Club of Batu Niah, Lions Club of Lambir, Lions Club of Lutong and Lions Club of Marudi Mandarin have all come together to organise the Telang Usan Community Rural Project 2024.

The voluntary project convenes in the villages of Long Bemang, Long Tujang and Long Buang for 2 days and 1 night starting yesterday until March 9.

The 5 Lions Clubs are carrying out their charitable mission in the Long Bemang, Long Tujang and Long Buang villages located at Ulu Baram, to help and improve the quality of life for the indigenous communities there.

“A total of 100 households with around 450 residents will benefit from this initiatives,” according to the press statement.

The Guest of Honor, District 308-A2 Governor Kapitan Ronny Hiew Ah Choi, is heading the delegation and will launch the program at the Long Tujang hall.

“The group, consisting of 50 individuals with 19 vehicles, gathered at the E-mart Riam car park early yesterday morning at 6 am,” added the statement.

Agencies involved include the Miri General Hospital, Long Bemang Health Clinic, Telang Usan District office, Long Bedian Sub-District office and Marudi District Council office.

The four-wheeled vehicles were co-sponsored and supported by TCH Hardware, JL Nippon Auto Sdn Bhd, Rimbunan Hijau Auto Services Sdn Bhd, KM Mobil Sdn Bhd and Woodman Sdn Bhd.

The Community Service Project for the village residents includes Education Project, Environmental Project, Vision Project, Hunger Project, Health Project, Cancer Project and Youth Project.

Consequentially, the Lions Club delegation will also provide assistance to the victims of the Penan longhouse which was razed by fire recently in Long Kerangan, Baram. The fire which occurred on March 6 destroyed the 17 doors longhouse.

The charitable aid to be distributed includes clothing, food supplies and mineral water.
