BINTULU: Five locals including a woman were arrested for alleged involvement in substance abuse with a seizure of 9.3g of drugs believed to be syabu over the weekend.
Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit in a statement said the district’s narcotic police had arrested four individuals around Jalan Pisang Keling and Jalan Abang Galau last Saturday.
All of them, aged between 20 and 43, were arrested on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse activity.
“Two of the male suspects were found to be in possession of drugs believed to be syabu.
“One will be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for allegedly possessing 8.5g of drugs while, the other will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the same Act for allegedly possessing 0.6g of drugs,” he said.
Meanwhile, narcotic police arrested a 31-year-old local man at Jalan Abang Galau yesterday as he was suspected to be in possession of drugs.
Body inspections led to the seizure of 0.2g of drugs believed to be syabu and the suspect was arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Batholomew pointed out that all five locals were tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine hence, they will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
