50 papers to be presented at Unimas conference

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The third International Conference on Media And Society (iC-MAS2019) beginning yesterday will see the presentation of several selected papers in the areas of health literacy, health communication, multimodal analysis of infographics, group identity, culture as well as communication security issues.

To add excitement to the two-day ceremony held at Pusat Islam Tun Abang Salahuddin of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Prof Dr Deddy Mulyana of the University of Padjadjaran, Indonesia, as the keynote speaker, will deliver a talk entitled ‘Issues and Challenges in Education in Cyberspace’.

According to the conference chairman Assoc Prof Dr Mus Chairil Samani, nearly 50 papers will be presented at the conference this year.

“These selected papers will be published in Scopus indexed journals as a way of boosting the findings of local and foreign researchers to the general public.

“Hosted by the Strategic Communication programme of the Faculty of Language and Communications, this conference will be attended by undergraduate and doctoral students from public and private universities locally and abroad.

“They (graduates) will also present the preliminary findings of their study in preparation for their actual oral examination at the end of their studies.

“In addition, a research proposal made by researchers across the country will be submitted to research funding agencies. This proposal will contain the fake news phenomenon from the experience of other countries,” he explained in a statement yesterday.

Further elaborating, Dr Mus added a roundtable discussion with local and foreign scholars would also be held to discuss the direction of communication studies in addressing the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) phenomenon.

“The discussion is expected to be compiled into a book so that the experiences of various countries in updating communications in line with community change can be highlighted. The manuscript of this book will be published by Unimas Publisher,” he stated.
