MIRI: Some 50 youth from the Telang Usan constituency yesterday joined in the inaugural Perintis Belia 1828.
The programme was hosted by Pro-Tem Belia 1828 Telang Usan aimed at providing a platform for the young people to express their concerns, foster critical thinking and encourage more youth participation in politics.
Pro tem Belia 1828 Telang Usan is made up of youth aged 18 to 28 from the constituency who are affiliated with Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) youth wing.
“It is crucial that for our youth to know their roles and get involve in decision-making particularly in election process,” said Sarawak Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
Annuar who is also Nangka assemblyman added, the current political landscape had encouraged many young people to participate in politics with many expressing their views on social media.
Also present during the programme was Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
During the one-day event, the youth were exposed to formal political processes.
