MIRI: Ever since the COVID-19 outbreak hit the state in the past two years, 60 per cent of the Northern Sarawak Journalists association (NSJA) members here have been infected by the virus.
NSJA president Andy Jong Wan Joon disclosed this during the association’s annual general meeting (AGM) held via zoom application yesterday.
“As frontliners doing coverage during the outbreak, they were highly exposed to the risks of infection,” said Jong.
He said NSJA had taken several steps to reduce the risks.
“We always remind members before and after they return from events to regularly clean their hands with sanitisers and most important wear face masks,” he pointed out.
On NSJA’s activities last year, Jong added the association had been focusing on charity and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) events.
Among them were blood donations and giving out food baskets to the needy who were badly affected by the movement control order (MCO).
In 2021, NSJA was named as the most responsive organisation in organising blood drive programmes.
During yesterday morning’s AGM, there was no election of new exco members as it was just an ordinary meeting.
