KUCHING: Fifty Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects costing RM1.5 million have been approved in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency.
Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the projects include the construction of village roads, maintenance of cemetery areas and upgrades of places of worship.
“In addition, the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) had allocated funds of RM2.2 million for the maintenance of rural roads.
“This will go towards repairing and upgrading five rural roads, of which three projects are already completed and the remaining are in progress of implementation,” he said in a statement.
Huang, who is also the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change said similarly, a grant of RM2.2 million has been approved under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to address flooding issues, which include the cleaning of 48 ditches and rivers in Meradong.
“It is also hoped that various government agencies or departments would ensure the projects to be completed according to schedule as it is aimed to benefit the local residents,” he said.
On a related development, the Repok assemblyman said that he had made every effort for the construction and development of both Sarikei and Meradong districts, as well as providing equal treatment in all aspects of the development of both areas.
“This is also to ensure that families of those in need, especially their children, receive school bags, school uniforms and school shoes,” said Huang.
