BARIO: The Sarawak Zone 6 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in collaboration with Petronas, successfully concluded its three-day Kita Selamat programme at Balia Raya here yesterday.

The closing ceremony, graced by political secretary Charles Balan Seling, representing Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Gerawat Gala, gathered 50 individuals from various villages, including Pa Derung, Arur Dalam Kubaan, Arur Dalan Pa Tik, Arur Layun, and Bario Asal.

The programme, which ran from Nov 16 to 18, was aimed at educating and empowering residents with crucial fire safety measures.

Activities included community Bomba briefings, discussions on compliance with the Building Ordinance (SBO) in construction, insights into the role of Bomba’s air unit in Miri, self-rescue and first aid procedures, building evacuation, fire extinguisher demonstrations, and fire rescue simulations.

The programme also featured talks from Petronas on ‘Good Housekeeping and Gas Safety at Home’, along with talks by Sarawak Rivers Board, Sarawak Energy Berhad, and the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication.

Two outstanding participants, Malik Madang from Pa Ramapuh village (male category) and Mary Walter Etta from Ulung Palang B village (female category), were recognised for their exceptional commitment throughout the programme.

The event also saw the presence of the Sarawak Bomba director Datuk Khirudin Drahman and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Asset senior general manager Anuar Ismail.

This marks the 10th consecutive year of the Kita Selamat Programme, underscoring its significance in fostering community resilience and preparedness.
