KUCHING: About 100 members of Sarawak Forest Department Workers Union (Ufes) attended its 26th biennial general meeting in a local hotel here, yesterday.

The members comprised workers from State Forest Department (FDS) regional offices in Miri, Limbang, Lawas, Bintulu, Sibu, Mukah and Kuching.

According to Ufes president Mohammad Ali Yacob, the union, established over 50 years ago, has undergone a lot of changes in line with FDS’ 100 years of establishment.

“However, with the diligence of its leaders, the union was able to overcome all obstacles along the way,” he said.

Ali commended the FDS management for providing a lot of opportunities to its workers on areas such as promotion.

Also present were FDS director Datuk Hamden Mohammad and State Union Affairs Department director Kamarulzaman Muhid.

The union presented compassionate aid to its retired members and beneficiaries of those who have passed on.
