KUCHING: Sarawak has allocated a total of 2,500 live cows in preparation for this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha also known as Hari Raya Qurban.

The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak director Dr Adrian Susin Ambud said the number so far was sufficient and in good and healthy condition.

“This year, Sarawak has imported 500 cows from Australia to meet the demand for Aidiladha preparations.

“All imported cattle have arrived and have been distributed but I have no further details (on the distribution per division),” he said when contacted by Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

The size of the cows depends on the weight and price offered by the suppliers, namely the halal slaughter complex PPES Ternak, Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) and other individual breeders, he pointed out.
