KUCHING: About 500 packets of “Bubur Lambuk” (savoury porridge) were distributed to the community at the Boyan Gersik Sourabaya (BGS) Esplanade here yesterday.
The programme, held in conjunction with the Ramadan month, was co-organised by BGS Friendly Neighbourhood (Kejiranan Mesra), Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pantai Damai and Ranting Gersik Branch.
Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi was present to distribute the porridge and present donations to the needy.
71 recipients from 14 villages in the Seberang Hilir areas received the donations. The recipients consisted of senior citizens, single mothers, people with disabilities (OKU) and the less fortunate.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Pantai Damai State Assemblyman, said the presentation of donations and distribution of “Bubur Lumbuk” took place annually.
Meanwhile, DBKU Mayor, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, said that DBKU had been organising charitable programmes and “gotong-royong” (mutual assist) programmes throughout the year to get closer to the community.
“DBKU cannot clean the whole Kuching City, therefore, through our programme, we educate and encourage the community to help keep the city clean,” he said.
Wahap added the programme was also in line with DBKU’s plan to make Kuching a clean, beautiful, and safe (CBS) city. Also present were PBB Pantai Damai Women Chief, Jamaiyah Sulaiman, and BGS Friendly Neighbourhood Chairman, Mohamad Hasfa Saleh.
