KUCHING: Fifty two cadet students and 20 cadet teachers yesterday successfully completed a three-day course for cadet teachers and platoon chiefs at the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak headquarters here.
The closing ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Fire and Rescue Department Sarawak Khirudin Drahman and the principal of SMK Kuching High Tan Kiang Tuang, a representative from the Sarawak Management, Development and Humanitarian Sector Leong Chin Chin, Senior Fire Superintendent Janggan anak Muling and Senior Fire Superintendent Tiong Ling Hii.
Khirudin pointed out that the course had taught the cadets to think creatively and make quick decisions during critical situations.
“The students and teachers can share the knowledge and skills they have learned from the course to educate and inform others who do not have the same experiences as they do,” he said.
Khirudin also said that the Fire and Rescue Department needed the teachers and students to help during emergencies as the Fire and Rescue Department personnel could not be everywhere at the same time.
He said with their newly gained knowledge and talents, the course participants could save lives.
During the ceremony, the teachers were bestowed the ranks of cadets on the teachers and platoon chiefs on the students.
This was followed by the certificate of attendance to all who attended the three-day course.
