LAND TITLES
BAU: A total of 528 Native Customary Rights (NCR) land titles for landowners in Singai were issued under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code (SLC) during a ‘Leader-With-The-People Session’ at Kampung Bobak Sejinjang, here on Saturday.
Residents here were overjoyed after receiving their land titles and strongly believed that the issuance of the land titles to respective landowners proved that the state government was serious in efforts to settle NCR land issues.
The recipients comprised residents from four villages here —Kampung Bobak Sajong, Kampung Daun, Kampung Sudoh, and Kampung Atas.
Amet Ringo, 50, from Kampung Atas, expressed his gratitude to the state government and the Land and Survey Department for issuing the land titles.
“I am very satisfied with the state government’s effort to provide land titles especially for us who live in rural areas and I feel very fortunate to be able to receive the title to my land as it helps to identify and solidify my position as landowner.
“With the land titles, we can identify our respective lands and its boundaries. This is crucial to avoid fighting over lands which is a common occurrence especially among villagers. This is definitely a good initiative on the state government’s part,” he said.
He hoped that the application process could be expedited to ease the nerves of many landowners.
Sony Ribol, 55, from Kampung Bobak said that she was delighted to see the state government’s involvement in the process and their consideration towards the welfare of the community.
“I have waited for over 10 years for this and with the help of the Land and Survey Department, I am able to collect my land title today,” she said.
Federict Jinim, a local resident, said he was glad to receive his land title after waiting for two years and commended the state government for expediting the process of providing land titles for the community.
Sisters Meidi Nguan and Hitson Nguan were both very relieved to receive their respective land titles after waiting for 10 years.
They both stated their plans on cultivating their land and turning it into a small farm to plant various vegetables and fruits.
