MIRI: A potentially catastrophic fire at a surau in the Sungai Klad plantation was averted on Sunday afternoon (July 21) due to the heroic efforts of the plantation workers.

The workers sprang into action upon noticing the blaze and managed to control it using 53 fire extinguishers before the arrival of the Fire Department.

“The fire broke out in the surau, a permanent structure within the plantation.

“Thankfully, the alert reached us at 4.05 pm, and our team responded immediately.” said BOMBA.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department discovered that the fire had already been extinguished, with around 80 per cent of the surau sustaining damage.
