LUNDU: A total of 55 people from 14 families were evacuated to two flood relief centres in the district as at 4pm yesterday.

The number of flood victims increased, following worsening weather conditions, as compared to 51 people from 12 families at 12pm.

State Disaster Management Committee secretariat chief Major Ismail Mahedin said the flood was due to rising river water level in the village caused by heavy downpour since 3am yesterday morning in Kuching, Lundu and Sematan.

“I urge residents living in the low-lying areas of Lundu and Sematan to evacuate to the temporary relief centres when instructed, to avoid any untoward incidents,” he said.
