MIRI: An immigration swoop across Pujut, Piasau, Bakam, Lutong, and Kuala Baram early Monday saw 55 people being arrested for breaching the law.
The raid by the Miri Immigration Enforcement Unit focused on shared houses, rental properties, and temporary settlements at construction sites.
The arrests involved 18 men, seven women and 30 children, with the largest single arrest taking place at a housing construction site in Kuala Baram, where 42 people were found.
All those arrested face charges under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for a range of offences, including lacking valid travel documents, overstaying and not possessing the required passes to remain in Malaysia.
The raid was part of ongoing measures to address illegal immigration and uphold the country’s immigration laws.
