MIRI:  Fifty-five children from Pusat Jagaan Anak Anak Kesayangan Kami Pujut 8 and the Hamidah Yakub Welfare Complex in Tudan – both orphanages – were on Wednesday night treated to a breaking of fast by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Miri and Miri Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Michael Teo.

The event was held at a leading hotel here.

Also present was RTM Miri station manager Zaidi Bujang.

Zaidi in his speech said that the event was meant to bring joy to the children during the fasting month of Ramadan.

“This event is part of our effort to create and foster closer bond with one another,” he said.

At the event, the children were also given ‘duit Raya’ and goodies.

Meanwhile, Dr Teo vowed to solve the squatter issues in Miri.

According to him, there are about 4,000 squatters in Miri.

“We seek for the state government’s cooperation in providing us a piece of land (or area) to build low cost houses to tackle the squatter problem,” he said.
