KUCHING: Sarawak CID chief, SAC Dato’ Dev Kumar said operations against illegal gambling activities in the state

continued last week when the CID conducted more raids on outlets selling illegal 4D and cock-fighting pits.

A total of 30 raids were conducted involving 27 raids on illegal lottery outlets, one raid on cyber gambling and two raids on cock fighting pits which resulted in the arrest of 58 individuals.

The 27 raids conducted at counters selling illegal 4D were in 8 districts.

The 8 raids in Kuching and five in Miri resulted in the arrest of 29 individuals and seizure of

cash amounting to RM7,820. Mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationery were also seized.

Two raids were conducted at cock-fighting pits in Padawan and Miri. On Sunday at 1.30 pm, a team from CID HQs led by Inspector Rustam bin Morat conducted a raid at a cock-fighting pit at an empty land at Batu Kawa. 20 local men and one Filipino, age between 18 and 76 years were arrested. Three live and two dead cockerels and various gambling paraphernalia were also seized.

Dev said on 17 April at 3.00 pm, a team from CID Miri led by ASP Unang Anak Giang conducted a raid at a cock-fighting pit near a longhouse at Miri-Bintulu Road. Seven local men age between 23 and 54 years were arrested.

Four live and one dead cockerels and various gambling paraphernalia were also seized.

Of the 58 persons arrested, 41 were males while the rest were females. They were aged between 17 and 58 years. One of the arrestees was a foreigner.

All those arrested are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act and Prevention to Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1962.
