KAPIT: Sixty players representing the various ethnic groups in Song district took part in Song Closed Badminton tournament held at Dewan Masyarakat Song which ended last Sunday evening.Of the number, 36 players took part in the Men’s Double (18 teams) and 24 players in the Women’s Double (12 teams).

The two-day competition held last weekend was organised by the Youth Wing of Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Song in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration as one of its activities for Gawai.

The Men’s Double was won by the pair of Henry Lau and Engkiau Garing while the pair of Haji Sharkawi and Mohd Aniq Aufa Bin Mohd Baker was in second place.

  Francis Lee and his partner Bujang Ak Ladi and the pair of Lau Lee Hin and Blaja were in joint third.

Meanwhile, the pair of Rani Anak Karun and Dayang Nappiah Bt Abg Wahed emerged champion in the Women’s Double while in second place was the pair of Connie Anak Gani and Jacklyn Anak Berandah. In joint third were Michelle Wong Chung Leng and her partner Sammi Kong Pei Nei and the pair of Temah Ak Dagang and Susan Ak Ladin.

The winners received prizes in the form of cash, badminton rackets and trophies.

The champion team brought home RM200, a trophy and a pair of rackets while the second prize winner received RM150 and a trophy. The joint third prize winners each receive RM100 and a trophy.

Officiating at the closing and prize giving ceremony was Secretary of SDNU Song, Johnny Jugah who later gave away the prizes to the winners.
