MIRI: A strong crowd gathered at the National Sports Day (HSN) Miri-level celebration yesterday morning despite the heavy rain.

The event, which kicked off at 7 am, saw 600 participants braving the weather to take part in the festivities aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii officiated at the event, and thereafter flagged off the participants who were all ready to have a fun run and walk in front of Miri City Hall, Jalan Marina Park.

The event is part of Malaysia’s National Sports Day initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to encourage the nation to embrace sports.

“The National Sports Day is the perfect platform to instill a sports culture among the community,” said Yii.

“I believe this goal can be achieved with the support and involvement of everyone. Sports is a powerful tool in fostering unity, and practicing a fit and active lifestyle can help reduce chronic diseases in our society.”
