BETONG: The Sarawak government is continuing its efforts to develop Betong Division and efforts are being made to develop the Bukit Sadok Agropolitan Areas and the Sarikei/Betong Food Basket Areas.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that some 60,000 hectares in the food basket areas had been identified and had very good potentials.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has promised to allocate an even bigger budget for the agriculture sector next year,” he revealed.

Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, was speaking at a dialogue session with more than local 200 community leaders from his constituency at Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan Hall, Betong.

Meanwhile, at the dialogue session that followed, all community leaders who spoke voiced their confidence in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government leading the state.

The community leaders also expressed their opposition to the setting up of the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Also present was Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief and Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu.
