KUCHING: July 22 will witness a grand celebration of Sarawak’s 60th independence anniversary, designed to strengthen the sense of identity and pride among the state’s residents as accomplished and prosperous Sarawakians.
Datuk Abdullah Saidol shared that the event, themed ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’, would feature a special programme highlighting the developmental journey of Sarawak over the past six decades since gaining independence.
The Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) pointed out that the celebration would serve as a significant moment to reflect on the roles and struggles of Sarawakians, as well as to honour the state’s history and achievements.
Furthermore, it would provide an opportunity to appreciate the value of ethnic diversity, which serves as a source of strength and beauty for Sarawak.
“We deeply value the journey of residents from various ethnicities and religions, who have successfully maintained and strengthened camaraderie and unity in Sarawak.
“We want to emphasise this uniqueness to the extent that Kuching is recognised as a city of unity, and the phrase ‘Segulai Sejalai’ becomes a national unity slogan.
“Our aim is to uplift the people of Sarawak and instil pride in being Sarawakians,” he said during an interview at CatsFM radio station on Wednesday (June 28).
Abdullah further revealed that a thanksgiving ceremony involving individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds, according to their respective religions, would be held on July 21, the day before the main event.
In addition to the ceremony, a state banquet, a concert featuring renowned guest artists, and a captivating fireworks display are also planned.
