PAKAN: The implementation of four road projects is the focus of the Sarawak government to ensure that Pakan is not marginalised from development.
Among the projects are the upgrading of the Rumah Saban Sungai Ipoh Road, Ulu Kota Pakan; the Pakan Road Project, Ulu Kota Pakan (Phase 3) and ‘Replacement of Seven Temporary Bridges under Phase 1 to Permanent RC Bridges’ in Sarikei and the ‘Road to Pakan Town Extension’ project.
Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said when all these main road projects had been completed, other development projects could be carried out smoothly and efficiently.
“I hope that the people of Pakan understand and accept the developments that have been or will be implemented here.
“These are government initiatives to ensure that the people in this area are not left behind in development,” he said during a ceremony to present land compensation cheques for the projects at the Pakan District Office here on Thursday.
Mawan said the Sungai Ipoh Rumah Saban House project in Ulu Kota Pakan included upgrading the Rumah Saban entrance road.
“This will involve 30 plots of land with Bumiputera communal reserve status and an area of 19.98 acres.
“Meanwhile, for the Pakan Road Project, Ulu Kota Pakan (Phase 3) and ‘Replacement of Seven Temporary Bridges Under Phase 1 To Permanent RC Bridges’, Sarikei, it involves the construction of a new two kilometre-long road involving 41.36 acres of land.
“As for the ‘Road to Pakan Town Extension’ project, it involves the construction of a new one- kilometre long road,” he explained.
At the cheque presentation ceremony, 61 landowners received compensation cheques worth a total of RM1,104,773.55.
Also present were acting Pakan District Officer Yalin Asan and Sarikei Division Land and Survey Superintendent Thian Choon Kui.
