SIBU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sibu branch seized a total of 620.7 litres of diesel on suspicion of intentionally storing unlicensed goods at Jalan Salim here on Friday night.
A 29-year-old man was also arrested to assist in the investigation.
KPDNHEP Sibu chief Kelyn Bolhassan @ Hailward said the suspect failed to provide written authorisation documents to purchase and store the items.
“The case will be investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
“If convicted, the suspect could be fined up to RM1,000,000 or imprisonment for not more than three years or both, while the company responsible could be fined up to RM2 million,” he said.
Kelyn said the ministry advised the public not to buy petrol or diesel beyond the capacity of the vehicle’s tank without a special permit for scheduled items.
“Petrol station operators are also advised not to sell petrol and diesel to the public beyond the permitted quantities as provided under the Supply Control Act 1961.
“Those caught will be charged under the Supply Control Act 1961 and stern against will be taken against them,” he said.
