PUSA: A total of 64 communication for behavioural effects (Combi) volunteers here participated in a dengue outbreak training programme organised by Betong Health Office yesterday.

Comprising 25 Combi of Kampung Hulu, 24 (Kampung Tengah) and 15 (Kampung Hilir), the empowerment programme trained participants on how to check mosquito breeding sites inside and outside the home, in crops and other at-risk areas.

Earlier, Betong Health officer and Public Health specialist Dr Johnny Pangkas said the establishment of three new Combi localities in Kampung Hulu, Kampung Tengah and Kampung Hilir in last August had increased the number of Combi volunteers in Betong to 20.

At the same time, he hoped the volunteers could help the Betong Health Office to eliminate Aedes mosquitoes to prevent the dengue outbreaks.

“Volunteers are reminded to play their part.

“Even when no outbreaks occur, we must always be vigilant because infections from outside (other areas) can occur at any time.

“That is why the role of the Combi team is important, especially in reminding residents to regularly check the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes, to carry out gotong-royong activities and most importantly, to ensure that the public go to a hospital/clinic when they have fevers,” he pointed out.
