SELANGAU: The Sarawak government has allocated a total of 65 per cent of the 2024 State Budget for the development of rural areas.
Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said that the focus in the budget is not only on basic needs such as roads, electricity, and water supply but also on economic sectors.
“During the tabling of the 2024 State Budget, the Sarawak government allocated 65 per cent of the budget for rural areas,” he said during a programme held at Rh Lunin Benang here recently.
Meanwhile, Sikie, who is also Kakus assemblyman said that the allowance for community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) had been submitted to the state government for a review for it to be aligned with the current needs.
In addition, he urged the Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK) to prioritise educated individuals to lead the economic bureau to improve the standard of living for residents.
He also pledged RM28,000 for JKKK of Rh Lunin Benang and RM5,000 for the women’s bureau.
