67 raids on illegal gambling conducted from July 23-29

Police raid on various illegal 4D operators throughout Sarawak.

KUCHING: Sarawak CID chief, SAC Dennis Leong said since the setting up of a round-the-clock Special Ops Room on July 23, they have received a total of 25 tips on gambling activities in the state from members of the public.

“From the information received, 23 of the tips were genuine and precise, resulting in arrests and seizures.

“Two of the tips are still in the process of verification. We are very thankful for the information given and we urge members of the public to continue to inform us on gambling activities via 082-274213.

“We also request that those who are giving us information to state whether the information is present, belated or hearsay,” said Leong.

A total of 67 raids were conducted against illegal gambling activities during the past week (July 23-29) in Kuching, Padawan, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Samarahan, Bau, Limbang, Maradong, Serian, Sarikei, Kapit, Saratok, Sri Aman, Lawas, Matu Daro, Lundu and Song.

A total of 99 individuals (73 males and 26 females) between the ages of 16 and 63 years were arrested.

Meanwhile, 22 handphones/tablets, betting slips and cash amounting to RM16,559 were seized.

Among the raids, 12 were conducted against online gambling, 50 against illegal 4D activities, three against gambling in public, one against gambling in a common gaming house and one against illegal cockfighting activities.

All those arrested are being investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and the Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Ordinance.
