SIBU: The increasing demand for oil and gas, coupled with logistic requirements, has propelled Sarawak’s maritime industry to new heights, driving economic growth and prosperity.
In stating this Sarawak Association of Maritime Industries (SAMIN) president, Dr. Renco Yong said export of vessels of international standard to various countries across the globe has showcased the expertise and craftsmanship of Sarawakian shipbuilders.
“Out of a hundred shipyards nationwide, 68 reside within our borders in Sarawak, rightfully claiming its place as the heartland of the shipbuilding and ship repair industry in Malaysia.
“SAMIN, since its inception on Oct 25, 2018, has been at the forefront of promoting and advancing the maritime sector in Sarawak.
“Under the visionary leadership of our founding president, Ngieng Ping Sing, and with the unwavering support of each member, we have witnessed remarkable progress and transformation,” he said at the SAMIN office relocation cum signboard installation ceremony here today.
The event was graced by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng.
Yong highlighted that the shipbuilding industry, recognised as one of the key pillars of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) plan, underscores the strategic importance of the sector in driving sustainable development and creating employment opportunities for the people.
As SAMIN continues to chart its course forward, guided by principles of innovation, sustainability, and excellence, it is poised to play an instrumental role in shaping the maritime landscape not just regionally but globally.
“Our relocation to this new office signifies not just a change in address but a reaffirmation of our commitment to serving our members and stakeholders with diligence and dedication.
“It is a testament to our collective resolve to adapt, evolve, and thrive in an ever-changing environment. This new space shall serve as a hub for collaboration, creativity, and synergy, fostering greater cohesion and camaraderie among our members.
“Furthermore, I am thrilled to announce that our new office is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate various activities and events.
“With seating capacity for up to 80 individuals for seminars or 30 seats with tables for meetings, along with dedicated spaces such as the president’s room and secretariat office, we now have the infrastructure to host a wide range of training sessions, seminars, meetings, and functions,” he assured.
As SAMIN embarks on this new chapter in its journey, Yong said it would reaffirm its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and excellence, and harness the collective strength of the association to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and realise the shared vision of a vibrant and prosperous maritime industry in Sarawak.
