KOTA MARUDU: Sixty nine-year-old farmer, Mundan Gomosi completed a gruelling 36km solo run on Saturday to celebrate National Day.

The father of five began his run at 5am at Kampung Talantang and headed to Bukit Gana before
returning to Kampung Talantang, completing the circuit in six hours and 35 minutes.

The patriot who took up running after the death of his wife, Randumi Masangkin, in October 2014 to forget his loss, and then began running seriously in 2018, said the event was meant to give expression to his National Day spirit.

Speaking to Bernama yesterday at the launch of the Kota Marudu-level month-long celebrations of National Day and the raising of the national flag, Mundan said the run which was undertaken in collaboration with the Sabah Information Department, was also aimed at proving his abilities as a senior citizen as he feels seniors are “often looked down on and thought incapable of doing anything”.

The programme was officiated by Tandek assemblywoman Datuk Anita Baranting. Mundan expressed the hope that his run would inspire others,  particularly senior citizens, to look after their health and prove that they could still contribute towards the country. – Bernama
