KUCHING: Day nine of a statewide sanitation exercise continued yesterday with the disinfection of several areas to stem the spread of Covid-19.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director, Tiong Ling Hii, said since March 30 that there had been 70 disinfection operations carried out throughout Sarawak. Yesterday alone, 10 such operations were carried out.
For Kuching, such operations were carried out with the cooperation of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Health Ministry (MoH).
According to Tiong, two operations in Kuching by 34 firemen, and personnel from MBKS and MoH disinfected local markets including Upper Foochow Road Market yesterday.
In Marudi, Marudi Good Shepherd’s Church and Roman Catholic St Basil Church were disinfected yesterday morning.
To date, Kuching has completed 30 disinfection operations followed by Miri (13), Samarahan and Sarikei (7 each), Limbang (5), Sibu and Betong (3 each) and, one each in Sri Aman and Bintulu.
Places that the fire department had disinfected included 20 public markets, 14 government buildings, 13 worship places, 10 assembly places, seven residential areas, four transportation hubs, and two supermarkets throughout the state.
On Monday afternoon, two disinfection operations were carried out in Marudi by 11 firefighters. They disinfected the Marudi Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Church and Marudi District Office.
In Bintulu on the same day, five firefighters and six MoH personnel disinfected Faley Supermarket.
