DEMAK: Seventy firefighters attended the second series of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Enhancement Programme (Borneo zone) yesterday.
Bomba director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Haji Wahid officiated at the event which was held at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) here.
The five-day programme which commenced yesterday involves zone and station chiefs from Sarawak (39), Sabah (27) and Labuan (4).
The programme features talks by senior officers from Putrajaya and sharing sessions to discuss on improvement to areas the departments are lacking in.
Hamdan further mentioned the department’s plan to establish Bomba academies.
“We will pursue to establish a permanent academy on the acquired 20-acre land at Kota Samarahan under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“The academy in Sabah is expected to be completed either this or next year at an estimated cost of RM50 million as well as the Wakaf Tapai Academy, Terengganu which was estimated to be RM45 million. Both academies have been approved by the government.”
He also stated the differences of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade establishments in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang in terms of equipments, skills, protocols and standard operating procedure (SOP).
Hamdan also encouraged the participants to share their ideas or suggestions to improve the service of their departments during the five-day programme.
Also present were State Bomba director PKPjB Khirudin Drahman, Bomba Operations Division Director Datuk Abdul Wahab Mat Yasin, Fire Investigation Division Director SAC Ahmad Izram Osman, Bomba Operations Division (Operations Management Branch) Head Assistant Commissioner Morni Mamat and state Bomba Operations Assistant Director Tiong Ling Hii.
