KUCHING: Seventy teams are expected to participate in the first ever Saint Thomas Carolling Cup 2024.
Organised by Persatuan Kebajikan Masyarakat Stakan Kuching, the event marks the first year it is being held in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas Parade at Kota Sentosa here.
Vice president Valentine Yong said the event is open to all churches and chapels as well as community association within the Kota Sentosa area, alongside Stakan, Batu Kitang and Mambong.
“Each team must consist of a total of five members, and everyone is eligible. Participants must represent either a church, a community association, or the village development and security committee (JKKK).
“This is to ensure that areas without a church can still participate through their local JKKK or community association,” he told a press conference for the upcoming competition at LL Banana Leaf here today.
Yong said entries must be submitted by Nov 25.
“All entries after Nov 25 would not be entertained, and each church or organisation is allowed to send as many teams as they wishes to,” he added.
The winning team will receive RM3,000, first runner-up RM2,000, second runner-up RM,1000, and the fourth and fifth placed winners RM500 each.
“The preliminary round will be held for two weeks, with the final comprising 10 teams to compete after the Kota Sentosa Christmas Parade,” he said.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin is expected to officiate at the Saint Thomas Carolling Cup 2024.
Application forms will be distributed to churches and chapels within Kota Sentosa, Stakan, Batu Kitang and Mambong. For more information, contact 014-6966722.
