KUCHING: More than 700 experts in diverse fields of research, innovation and commercialisation from 17 countries will come together for the Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) 7th World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2022.
UTP’s deputy vice chancellor, Academic Professor Dr Hilmi Mukhtar told reporters on Wednesday said since its inauguration in 2010, the latest edition of ESTCON 2022 will for the first time convene in Borneo Convention Centre for two days beginning December 1.
He added that the Congress, themed “Future Energy and Smart Communities”, will delve deeper into the energy transition and transformation in nurturing a sustainable future, in line with Petronas’ energy transition initiatives to move towards net zero carbon emission.
“The Congress will cover a wide range of topics – from innovation, engineering and technology to humanities and addressing the latest trends and challenges,” said Hilmi.
“ESTCON 2022 is co-organised by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Multimedia University, FPT University Vietnam, Universiti Teknologi Brunei and the alliance of government linked universities.
“The Congress is supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Sarawak government, Human Resources Development Corporation and the Malaysia Board of Technology (MBot), with Petronas as the main partner.”
Hilmi added that the Congress is targeted at the academic fraternity, those from industry, government and non-government organisations, policy makers and the public.
“ESTCON 2022 offers a platform for like-minded individuals to keep abreast of the latest research and innovations, share knowledge, build connections and establish collaborations,” he added.
