KUCHING: About 700 vaccinations were prepared for a mass vaccination programme at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Community Hall here, yesterday.
According to Dr Jackie Peter, who is a veterinarian from the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak, only 700 were prepared as most of the areas under MBKS were covered during the house-to-house vaccination programme.
“The house-to-house vaccination programme started last year in targeted areas,” he said when met by reporters.
He added that targeted areas included areas with confirmed cases of rabies, bite cases and with a large number of stray dogs.
“We implemented the house-to-house vaccination because we discovered that there are pet dogs that have tested positive for rabies, as some of the owners did not get their dogs vaccinated.
“Therefore, we are not targeting only stray dogs but also pet dogs in this vaccination programme,” he said.
