BINTULU: The Sarawak government is strategically developing Bintulu town with a well-structured plan that aims to benefit the local population and those employed in Bintulu.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Jepak Jaya would be transformed into a new commercial centre, equipped with various facilities including housing and commercial buildings with low price rates.
“We have already identified 7,000 lots to build affordable houses for the B40 and M40 groups.
“This will involve a lot of government injections. First, the infrastructure will be borne by the government and we are not passing the cost on to them.
“All the houses, infrastructures and utilities will be borne by the government including a RM10,000 deposit and the rest will be from a housing loan under Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd because we want to ensure the cost of living goes down,” he said after attending a working visit to the site projects of Kampung Jelutong Housing Expansion Scheme and the Bintulu Integrated Administration Centre today (Nov 3).
Abang Johari, who is also the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) chairman, said that this development would also be extended to Tatau.
“In other words, this is a mechanism for us to reduce costs and provide basic facilities in Bintulu.
“So in the long term, I can calculate that within 15 to 20 years, the costs will be lower because there is supply and demand,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and deputy minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
