KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 703 Covid-19 positive cases on Gawai Day (June 1), bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 48,032.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said a total of 458 or 65.15 percent of the total cases detected were in Kuching, Bintulu and Miri districts.
Kuching district recorded the highest number with 218 cases, followed by Bintulu (142), Miri (98), Sibu (40), Marudi (32), Kapit (31), Samarahan (16), Beluru (13), Serian (12), Betong (10), Bukit Mabong, Subis and Sarikei (eight each), Tatau, Sri Aman and Meradong (seven each), Selangau and Lubok Antu (six each), Tanjung Manis (five), Matu, Pakan and Lawas (four each), Kabong, Sebauh and Mukah (three each), Kanowit and Limbang (two each), Asajaya, Song, Dalat and Simunjan (one each).
Of the 703 cases reported, 93 people had shown signs and experienced symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.
SDMC said 362 cases have recovered and allowed to be discharged from hospitals and Covid-19 Low Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) statewide. Of the total, 100 is from Sibu, followed by Miri (71), Kuching (60), Bintulu (42), Kapit (24), Mukah (20), Sarikei (18), Sri Aman (nine), Betong and Serian (eight each), and Lawas (two).
To date, this brings the total number of Covid-19 positive cases who have recovered and discharged to 39,324 or 81.87 percent of the total cases in the state.
In addition, as of today (June 1), 8,301 active cases are still receiving treatment and segregated in the PKRC and hospital wards.
Meanwhile, 703 new person-under-investigations (PUI) were reported and none are awaiting laboratory test results.
