KUCHING: The authorities issued compounds to 71 persons for failing to practise physical distancing during a live band performance here on Sunday (May 9).
They were among 96 individuals compounded for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the conditional movement control order (CMCO).
Kuching recorded the highest compounds with 83, followed by seven in Miri, five in Bintulu and one in Padawan.
“The violations include failing to practise physical distancing while entertaining with a live band (71); visiting premises past the allowed time (13); premises operating past the allowed time (nine); and failure to provide reasonable excuse for being out from home during CMCO (three).
“This brings the total number of compounds issued since March 18 last year to 6,391,” said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today.
Apart from that, Kuching police also arrested six men (three Bruneian, a Sudanese, a Yemeni and a Bangladeshi) for visiting a crowded bistro with companions and failing to practise physical distancing.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has issued 55 compounds to business operators of premises under the supervision of various local councils.
Kanowit District Council recorded the most compounds with 10; followed by six under Kota Samarahan Municipal Council; five each under Padawan Municipal Council, Miri City Council and Subis District Council; four each under Kuching South City Council and Sibu Rural District Council; three each under Dalat and Mukah District Council, Bau District Council and Kapit District Council; two each under Maradong and Julau District Council, Sibu Municipal Council and Marudi District Council; and one under Lundu District Council.
SDMC added that the businesses were violating SOPs such as failing to update the record books (21); not enforcing wearing face masks (10); operating past the allowed time (five); failing to scan the MySejahtera (four); failing to enforce practice of physical distancing (four); failing to prepare customer record books (three); failing to scan customers’ temperature (two); operating without permission (two); failing to prepare body temperature scanner (two); non-functional temperature scanner (one); and number of employees exceeds 50 percent (one).
