KUCHING: As at October, 7,222 or 72 per cent of the 10,001 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects to be implemented in Sarawak from 2015 to this year had been completed, said State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion.
He added that as at December, 216 or 69 per cent of the 311 Rural Transformation Initiatives (RTI) projects had been completed.
“We will continue to intensity our efforts to identify and propose more intervention projects to meet the high expectations of the rakyat,” he said when speaking at the State Civil Service Day at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
According to Jaul, the Sarawak civil service had been instrumental in ensuring that projects were well-implemented and executed in a timely manner.
He said the celebration themed ‘Excellent Service Delivery: Integrity and Professionalism’ was a tribute to the work that civil servants do for the people on a daily basis.
He said that while certain aspects such as the way of working and communicating had to change along with technological advancement, some things should remain the same, namely the six shared values of the civil service.
Jaul reminded the audience that civil servants were looked up to by many.
“People expect a great deal from us and scrutiny is high.
“The civil service must be more than doing a job efficiently and honestly. It must be completely dedicated to the rakyat,” he said.
He urged civil servants to constantly put themselves in the customer’s shoes in order to understand their needs.
“We must make it a point to go down and visit the rural areas as often as we can. The better we know how they feel, the better we can serve them.”
Jaul reminded civil servants to serve with foresight and from the heart, while also having a rakyat-centric mindset.
During the ceremony, the Sarawak Civil Service Discipline Management Manual, Learning Management System by Leadership Institute of Sarawak, Electronic Local Authority Version 2 (ELA2) by the Ministry of Local Government, eLasis by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department, and SCS mobile app were also launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Also present were Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip; Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Children Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian; Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin; Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong; Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, and State Federal Secretary Mohd Shahabuddin Omar.
