SEBUYAU: A total of RM3 million had been allocated to repair 372 houses through the Fishermen Special Housing Project.

The allocation involved the Sebuyau state constituency since the year 2012.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Sri Rohani Abdul Karim said various facilities were channeled by the government through the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) involving almost 900 fishermen in Sebuyau area including the building of jetties, stores for boats, river crossing and others.
“A total of 403 heads of household were assisted under the 1Azam Tani programme from 2011 involving an allocation of almost RM4 million,” she said.

Rohani added that LKIM’s effort in encouraging fishermen to sell their catch directly to consumers through the Fishermen’s Market was desirable.

“The provision of Fishermen’s Market can help fishermen increase their income through direct sales to consumers.

“In fact, consumers will get fresh and better quality fish,” she said at a ‘Leader Meet the Fishermen’ session held here, yesterday.
