MUKAH: A total of 79 students from SMK Bakun and SMK Belaga participated in a study tour to Mukah Polytechnic (PMU) in the Outreach Programme for Belaga native students today.
The delegation was led by senior assistant of Student Affairs, Penan Murum Development Committee (MPCD), Wanus Lasan.
Those who participated in the tour were Form Two to Form Six students and Form Five school leavers from the Penan, Sihan, and Kayan ethnic groups.
Upon arrival at PMU, the group was welcomed by deputy director (Academic) Iskandar Reduan, deputy director (Academic Support) Sophian Sout, and Head of Student Affairs and Development Department Aieseh Karim.
PMU, through a statement, said this programme aimed to provide support and opportunities to indigenous students in the Belaga District to access information, particularly from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Skills Training Institutions (ILK), hoping to encourage them to continue their studies and enhance their education.
Additionally, the programme aims to attract interest and provide exposure to students about the importance of technical education.
During their visit to PMU, the tour group was taken to visit the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Resource Centre Unit.
Meanwhile, they received briefings and talks from lecturers in the relevant departments.
