MIRI: The district’s Immigration Enforcement Unit has arrested a total of 82 foreigners for working without valid permits on Tuesday.
The arrest was following a series of raids dubbed ‘Ops Gegar’ and ‘Ops Sapu’ held at reflexology centres, entertainment centres and eateries.
According to the Sarawak Immigration Department, the unit’s main focus was directed at these businesses suspected of employing foreign workers without any valid passports.
Acting on tip-off, a total of 47 foreigners were inspected and from the figure, 32 were arrested for various immigration offences at the three targeted locations.
Overall, the department shared that a total of 97 foreigners have been inspected and 82 of them were arrested under ‘Ops Gegar’ and ‘Ops Sapu’ on Tuesday.
All of the foreign nationals are detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
