KUCHING: A total of 84 individuals were slapped with a RM1,000 compound each for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), from Sept 7 until 13.
Kuching district acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the compounds were issued after one week’s worth of inspections were conducted around Kuching.
“During the inspection, 72 individuals were found violating the SOPs for not practising physical distancing while at a bistro and KTV (karaoke) premises in Saradise, Oscar Centre, Jalan Datuk Tawi Sili and Stutong Baru.
“Meanwhile, 12 individuals were found to have violated the SOPs for not wearing face masks and not practising physical distancing in a public place at Kuching Waterfront and also at an eatery in the same area,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The 84 individuals (66 men and 21 women) were each slapped with a compound and handed over to Kuching IPD.
Merbin stressed that stern action will continue to be taken against any individual and entertainment centre owner who fail to comply with the SOPs during recovery movement control order (RMCO) period.
“The compound issued must be settled at the District Health Office within 14 days,” he explained.
In the meantime, Merbin also stressed that monitoring and inspections will be carried out continuously and intensified to curb any possible transmission of the virus.
“Despite repeated warnings given through mass media announcements regarding the compliance of SOPs with physical distancing, the public still failed to comply and were complacent with the instructions given.
“In this regard, PDRM will continue to intensify monitoring and inspections on all premises in this district and will ensure SOPs including ensuring the wearing of face masks in public places is fully followed.
“People are advised not to be complacent and always remain vigilant regarding this epidemic,” he stressed.
