KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has recorded a total of 864 cases of open burning so far this year.
It was revealed in an infographic from the department with the figures recorded from Jan 1 to Aug 31 across seven zones.
Zone 6 Miri tops the list with the highest open burning cases with a total of 306 cases.
This is followed by Zone 4 Sibu with 177 cases; Zone1 Kuching (145); Zone 5 Bintulu (94); Zone 2 Kota Samarahan (76); Zone 3 Sri Aman (45); and Zone 7 Limbang (71).
The open burning cases consists of 581 cases of bushes, weeds and grass; followed by garbage (185); forests (51); plantations or farms (28); others (13); and peat (six).
Yesterday, a total of 17 new cases related to open burning were recorded across the state.
A total of 14 open burning cases involving bushes and grass were recorded in Miri (six), Sibu (four), Kuching (three) and Sri Aman (one).
Meanwhile, two open burning cases involving garbage were recorded in Sri Aman and Miri, in addition to one case of open burning involving peat in Kota Samarahan.
