KUCHING: A total of 86 Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) houses have been completed and handed over to the applicants, while two are still under construction in the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency.
Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin said the RMR programme is open to all Malaysians aged 18 and above with a monthly income below RM5,000.
He said applicants and their spouses comprise those who do not own a house, or own dilapidated homes, and the housing site must be on suitable land with a mortgage-free grant.
“If the applicant is not the landowner, the applicant must obtain the landowner’s permission.
“For example, if the land grant is under the name of the applicant’s father or relatives, the applicant must obtain their permission first,” he said.
Willie explained that the price of houses under the RMR programme was RM75,000 where the government provided a subsidy of RM20,000. The balance of RM55,000 has to be applied for through a financial institution as a loan.
“Usually, the monthly loan repayment is in the range of RM150 to RM350, subject to the terms and conditions of the financial institution,” he said.
Those who are interested and qualified to apply for the programme can do so at the Puncak Borneo Service Centre office or directly to Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB).
According to Willie, the programme is different from the Poor People’s Housing Programme (PPRT), where the houses are built by the government for free.
