KUCHING: A total of 186 cases of occupational safety and health (OSH)-related incidents were documented in the first half of this year.
The State’s Occupational Safety and Health Director Dr Nor Halim Hasan also said that out of the 186 cases, nine of the cases involved fatalities, permanent disability (14), without permanent disability (155) and the remaining eight as occupational hazards.
“Of the total fatalities, three other cases were reported in the agriculture and fisheries sector, and four cases involved those working in the manufacturing sector.
Nor Halim said during the press conference yesterday that one of the remaining two fatalities involved the transportation, logistics, and communication industry, and the other one involved the wholesale sector.
Earlier, at the Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation Sejingkat Fabrication Yard off Jalan Bako, he officiated at the OSH Week 2022 and the Mass ToolBox Programme.
According to him, a total of 383 OSH-related cases were reported statewide last year, including 22 fatalities and 19 cases of permanent disability.
In 321 additional cases, there was no permanent loss of disability, and in 21 more were workplace hazards.
As of June 24 of this year, according to Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation chairman Datuk Safri Zainudin, the company had clocked 802,380 manhours on the Timi field development without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).
