MIRI: A 9-year-old girl remains in intensive care following a horrific car crash in Kampung Awat Awat, Lawas, on Friday afternoon.

The child, who survived the accident, is receiving treatment in the ICU at Miri Hospital.

Dr Jack Wong, director of Miri Hospital, confirmed on Saturday that the girl arrived at the hospital late Friday night for further medical treatment.

“She remains under close observation as she recovers from injuries sustained in the crash,” he said.

The accident occurred when a Perodua Alza vehicle carrying 10 passengers veered off the road and plunged into a river near Jalan Awat Awat Sundar in Lawas.

Firefighters from Lawas Fire and Rescue were alerted to the scene at 1.15 pm and promptly responded.

Tragically, three children, aged 5, 8, and 10, who were trapped inside the submerged vehicle, lost their lives.

The victims were students of SK Agama. Six other passengers survived the incident.
