KANOWIT: A total of 91 people from three longhouses here were evacuated to a temporary relief centre (PPS) in the district following non-stop heavy rain since Friday (Mar 24).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that the victims from 30 families are from Rh Langong, Rh Suzusie Lily and Rh Nyalong Indet.
In order to provide shelter for the victims, the Dewan Serbaguna JKKK Ngungun PPS was opened at 1.30pm today (Mar 26).
The victims were brought to the centre by personnel from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the police.
Earlier, it was reported that three longhouses were flooded following a heavy downpour on Friday night.
The floodwaters were reported to be about two and three-feet deep.
Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana also went to the ground to check on the flood situation at the longhouses.
